The history of La Barranca

We should remount to 1936 as the date in which the project of La Barranca Hotel started to get shape.
The location, according to the majority of neighbours, relatives and friends, was not the most appropriate place to build a Hotel: a neighbour path used for dragging pines that lead to a Valley in which the sole interest was the wells at "Countess Blizzard" (underneath the "Bola del Mundo") in which ice and snow was kept and subsequently moved to Madrid using bullock carts.
There was nothing more.. or yes: an unspoilt place for rest, away from the rowdiness of the big City.
Hence, the proprietary started the construction until the inauguration in 1940 - not without suffering lots of setbacks due to the bad climatic conditions - : a small Hotel with 15 rooms and 2 bathrooms.
The beginnings were really hard: a sector affected by the "single dish" (ration books, alter the civil war) and the prohibition for citizens to drive on Saturdays and Sundays due to the necessity of oil savings.
No matter what, the Valley's tourist interested started to grow and soon the Hotel started to welcome a fabulous clientele of writers, aristocrats, bullfighters and artists, some of them, such as Fernando Granado, used to finish their show in Madrid and afterwards travelled to stay at La Barranca.
Moreover, in 1972, the current Hotel was built, completing the tourist offer with new facilities suitable for company meetings and banquets, as well as for the concentration of sports teams.
This is just a small piece of the history of La Barranca, a hotel in which, up to date, three generations have been and will be pleased to serve you.
